Second Mental Health Innovation Prize
In Partnership with Mental Health Research Canada (MHRC)
IAM-MHRC 2022 Mental Health Innovation Prize: Application of Artificial Intelligence in Mental Health
FUNDING AMOUNT: up to $100,000 CAD
DEADLINE TO APPLY: October 30, 2022 by 5pm EST.
The Canadian Institute for Advancements in Mental Health (IAM) and
Mental Health Research Canada (MHRC) are investing
up to $100,000 in funding to support research in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and/or big data to improve mental health in Canada.
We are seeking to fund one or more project(s) that employ a novel application of these systems.
Our purpose is to advance the development of mental health care interventions or systems using AI to support treatment(s) and diagnoses — where we know the potential for impact is significant. While our scope is broad, we are primarily looking for projects in the early or mid-stage of development that utilize more novel approaches to AI — especially as it applies to community-based mental health services and supports.
We encourage collaboration and partnership in these projects. The funding can be used to develop the resource; but studying the efficacy of the resource must also be part of the funding request.
To best understand the scope of projects we may fund, and to limit the initial effort required by the applicant(s), we are first seeking out Letters of Interest before inviting full proposals. Letters of Interest are
due October 30, 2022, by 5 p.m. ET. Please submit all letters electronically to
[email protected].
Letters of Interest should be no longer than 4 (four) pages in length and include a detailed budget describing where prize funds would be used, an outline of the proposed collaborative or project, the parties involved, the potential for scaling, and a concept for evaluating effectiveness. Please note that submitting a full budget does not imply it will be awarded in its entirety, however, helps the judging panel to assess the feasibility and merit of the project.
This funding is intended for non-profits, community organizations, charities and/or innovators. An additional $50,000 may be available for a research and evaluation component, which must be conducted in partnership with a post-secondary institution. In addition to providing funding, IAM and MHRC commit to working with the successful applicant(s) to provide support in advancing their project.
Should you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].
